Main Street: Michigan’s Grassroots Economic Development Engine
Michigan Main Street (MMS) assists communities across Michigan interested in revitalizing and preserving their traditional commercial district. MMS provides technical assistance to local communities as they implement the Main Street Four-Point Approach®, a community-driven, comprehensive strategy encouraging economic development through historic preservation in ways appropriate for the modern marketplace. Cheboygan Main Street DDA is at the heart of a movement to develop downtown Cheboygan as a vibrant community with colorful activity all year long; the infinite flow of the Cheboygan River a lyrical background to creative and family-friendly storefronts, parks and greenspaces, and activities that are inviting and welcoming to everyone—residents and visitors alike.
Downtown Grayling inspires creativity, inviting people to come, play, and stay in its beautiful, eclectic, and fun live and work spaces, surrounded by the art of nature and the artistry of its residents, with diverse commercial offerings and modern amenities abundant throughout our historic, river town.
Rogers City Main Street is about bringing together a community to foster positive change and a vibrant downtown with careful consideration for historical preservation and cultural celebration. Rogers City has so much to offer and has significant potential to make an impact on many people’s lives.

Evart Main Street is making a real difference. Our Main Street appeal is reflected in its warm, inviting, clean and well-kept historic buildings and storefronts, with unique businesses and community organizations creating memorable experiences, that are abundant throughout this friendly, historic downtown.
Grand Haven Main Street is a historic waterfront town with a vibrant business district that is the heart of the community. We promote Grand Haven Main Street as a year-round destination and cultivate economic development to deliver a variety of activities that offer enjoyable experiences. We welcome people of all ages to come and enjoy all we have to offer.
Downtown Wayland is an inclusive and appealing community that is open for business and fun; its engaging, well-lit storefronts proudly displaying historically restored façades and filled with a diversity of food options, goods and services, its alleyways and mixed-use buildings transformed into cool, multi-functional spaces, with walkways and green spaces creating a sense of place where everyone wants to be.

Lapeer Main Street works with local public and private partners to ensure the growth, health, and prosperity of our vibrant downtown. We are creating an inviting community filled with friendly faces, historic places, delectable foods, delicious drinks, and a variety of unique shopping options that attract businesses and visitors alike with our family friendly charm.
Downtown Owosso is hitting its stride with building back after the pandemic. With a host of youthful and tenacious partners contributing to this transition, Owosso Main Street has transformed its tagline to, “Learn our Story, Create Your Own.” This new tagline captures the historic preservation efforts of our city, while also creating space to welcome new storytellers and visionaries who will help co-create our thriving downtown that is the heart of our community.

With an engaged community from all walks of life, downtown Charlotte is an alluring and proud combination of past, present, and future—resulting in a place that truly creates a memorable experience for families, residents and guests.
As the downtown management agency, Downtown Lansing Inc. serves as a community connector and solution creator—balancing the needs of our residents, businesses and visitors. Together with our partners, we are leading the transformation of Michigan’s downtown—making it the best that it can possibly be through purposeful and proactive recruitment and retention; building sustainable business systems that support and empower entrepreneurs; supporting growth and new community development models; and more!
Old Town Lansing
The Old Town Commercial Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of Lansing’s Old Town through socioeconomic development, historic preservation, business recruitment and community outreach. Rich and vibrant streetscapes provide a gateway to our livable, walkable and family-friendly community. Residents of Old Town and surrounding neighborhoods are invested and engaged in the success of the Old Town community.

The Downtown Coldwater Main Street program is working to support a dynamic environment that consistently demonstrates a collective energy and synergy. We strive to foster entrepreneurial investment and growth, and encourage a vibrant, multicultural, family-oriented downtown that is enjoyed by our community.
Making A Difference. During 2022, Niles Main Street navigated the new world of life post-Covid. We are excited to reinvent the outdoor area, previously known as The NODE, and have it become a permanent part of downtown Niles. Local food is a big part of what we are, but, we’ll also be focusing on bringing more retail experiences highlighting our local artisans this coming year.
We are working hard to make Three Rivers the place where you, your employees, and our neighbors will desire to live, work, dine and play to our greatest potential! We do this because we know that downtown Three Rivers is a success story in the making. A remarkably intact historic district, surrounded by parks and lakes and fabulous produce all around, with a vibrant community of artists, historians, makers and entrepreneurs.

Howell Main Street Inc. is at the heart of a movement to develop downtown Howell as an entrepreneurial, innovative, and environmentally sustainable community that exists for everyone. Downtown Howell is a place where residents and visitors of all ages experience an array of diverse, locally owned food, shopping and dining establishments; a place to engage in many inclusive events and gathering spaces; a place where memories are made; and a place that feels like home.
Milan Main Street is leading a grassroots movement to restore economic vitality to our downtown. Together with volunteers, business and property owners, and community partners and stakeholders we are working to make downtown Milan an attractive and inviting place to live, work, and experience.
Saline Main Street is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to guiding our downtown toward its most vibrant future! We uphold an inclusive place where everyone is welcome—a community that holds steadfast to the standard of equity in entrepreneurship and opportunities underscored by civic pride and an affinity to buy and sell local. The Village Downtown Grosse Pointe is a lively, vibrant destination of visually appealing and historic storefronts and streetscapes; welcoming everyone into its community of art-filled public spaces, creative, locally owned enterprises and respected national chains—all intentionally connected through the innovative use of 21st century technologies.
The Mexicantown-Hubbard Communities Main Street, a program of Southwest Detroit Business Association, in collaboration with businesses, residents and community stakeholders, is implementing a comprehensive commercial district economic development plan to strengthen, market and promote its business district. Mexicantown welcomes everyone to respectfully enjoy its vibrant, colorful and distinctive Main Street and traditional events, its architecture and aesthetic reflective of its proud Latin American roots.
Vanguard Community Development and community partners are taking a proactive approach to planning for the equitable prosperity of Detroit’s Historic North End Business district. Ongoing efforts are serving to heighten the district’s appeal as a place to work, visit, live and do business and invest. A holistic approach to revitalization is sparking a new wave of activity and reaffirming The Historic North End as a local and regional attraction, economic engine and center of culture and commerce.
