Michigan Statewide Historic Preservation Plan 2027-2034
It shall be the responsibility of the State Historic Preservation Officer to prepare and implement a comprehensive statewide historic preservation plan.

The Michigan State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is leading the process to develop the next Statewide Historic Preservation Plan, which will cover the period 2027-2034. This is YOUR plan, intended to help guide both the SHPO and preservation partners statewide in making meaningful progress toward preservation goals over the next eight years.
A state's historic preservation plan outlines broad preservation priorities and goals for a long term period (typically 5-10 years), informed by public and stakeholder input. It is meant to be a plan that all preservation practitioners - governments, advocates, private individuals and businesses can use as we seek to better understand and preserve Michigan's history.
The creation of a long-term statewide historic preservation plan is a federal requirement for each state's historic preservation office. The next statewide plan will outline broad preservation priorities and goals to be used by all preservation-related entities for this eight year time period. The staff of the SHPO is constantly assessing the opportunities and threats facing historic preservation in Michigan and looking for ways to address them.

The plan text was approved by the National Park Service in August, 2020. This plan is informed by public input and stakeholder feedback obtained throughout 2019 at regional workshops across the state.
